Tom Collins, or Jam Boy as he was known at the time, burst onto the scene in March 2005 with The Reluctant Jam Boy, a blog about his exploits on the course as a caddy, playing cards, drinking and even smoking Boss.
If you want hours of laughter, start from the beginning and work your way through his posts. Some truly inspired work.
Unfortunately, Tom had to move into the real world for awhile and left caddying behind for a desk job. With a set working schedule, he was able to start playing golf again and came up with a new quest: try to improve his golf game and maybe get good enough to attempt to qualify for a future US Open.
He started a new blog, Under the Limit, in August last year as a means of tracking his improvement with his game while also continuing to share stories about his life on and off the course.
That blog came to an abrupt end this summer when he suffered what us hockey fans would call “an upper body injury” and had to go on a bit of a hiatus.
Well, Tom is back with a new blog, which I call The Reluctant Jam Boy Version 2.0. He’s left the dull office job after recently being admitted into the Golf Writers Association of America with a new plan: follow the PGA Tour in 2010 and write about his experiences.
Tom will be writing E-Books for every Tour event he covers and you will be able to download all of his work from the new Jam Boy site for only $2.50 each. To give you an example of what you’ll be reading, check out his first effort, which he is offering at no charge, from the PGA event at Turning Stone that took place a couple months ago.
Sounds like it will be a great ride and I hope the year proves to be successful for Tom. I’ve linked all of his sites in the border on the right hand side – he’ll be back at work in early January either at the Bob Hope or the event being played opposite that one.
Best of luck to Tom on his journey!
